Work Learn W17: Student Assistant, Centre for Southeast Asia Research

Job ID: 840447

The Centre for Southeast Asia Research (CSEAR), one of the regional research centres of the Institute of Asian Research (IAR), promotes academic research and exchange, supports activities which contribute to a fuller understanding of Southeast Asia in Canada, and facilitates and enhances all aspects of Canada-Southeast Asia focused studies and research. To meet its mandate, CSEAR undertakes the organization of seminars, workshops, conferences and publications. It also serves as a vehicle for the development of collaborative research projects among faculty, graduate students, and colleagues at UBC, in broader Canada, and across Southeast Asia.

The CSEAR Student Assistant position is integral to the operations and goals of the Centre as the incumbent directly supports the CSEAR Director in planning, organizing, promotion and execution of its activities. The Centre relies on the incumbent to ensure that events and meetings hosted by the Centre are run smoothly and efficiently. This means that the student gains experience at all levels of the operation from providing a welcoming front line assistance to faculty, staff, students, researchers and visitors, to long-term strategic planning, to event coordination and liaison, to networking with local and international Southeast Asia scholars.
